Shirley Ann West

She was a proud graduate of R. L. Cousins High School in Douglasville and continued her education at Laney College in Oakland, California. She went on to serve her country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. Following her military service, she built a career as an accountant with the General Services Administration of the federal government, where she served with dedication and professionalism.

Her life was defined by much more than her accomplishments. She was an avid reader who loved discovering new ideas and stories. Her creative spirit was expressed through painting, sculpting, and photography. She enjoyed working in her yard, searching for treasures at estate sales, and savoring some of her favorite pleasures—ice cream and catfish.

She had a deep love of travel and enjoyed experiencing new places and meeting new people. She was especially gifted at connecting with others. Whether helping someone in need or simply sitting down to share a conversation, she gave people her time, attention, and genuine interest. Her kindness and willingness to help made a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her. She was an active member of the Les Soeurs Club for over 40+ years.

Faith was also a central part of her life. She was an active member of her church and a former minister, dedicating herself to serving God and others. Her faith was reflected in the compassion, generosity, and encouragement she extended to those around her.

She will be remembered for her strength, her creativity, her curiosity about the world, her commitment to serving others, and her ability to make meaningful connections with people. From her years of military and federal service to the simple joys of gardening, traveling, creating art, enjoying a good book, or sharing a conversation, she embraced life in her own unique way.

Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched, the people she helped, the faith she shared, and the memories created along the way. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly West; grandchildren, Hillary (Robert) Walker, Brea (Darrell) Cribb and Gabriel West; siblings, Lula M. Williams, Hattie Burton, Roy D (Barbara) Burton, Lorene (Jim) Jones, and Leonard D Burton as well as a host of nieces, nephew and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Beulah Burton; son, Ronald West Jr; grandson, Noah West; siblings, Robert L. (Clarke) Burton, Clyde (Hazel) Burton, Dorothy Preyear, Herschel Burton; Ellis Burton and Larry D. Burton.

The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner Funeral Home Monday, September 14 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 pm with Bishop Reginald Litman officiating. Following the funeral service, Ms. West will be laid to rest with military honors at New Mountaintop Baptist Church 7822 Conners Rd, Winston, GA.
