She passed away peacefully, just shy of her 102nd birthday, on January 22, 2025. Upon graduation from high school, her family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for her father’s health. There, soon after the end of World War II, she met her husband Albert William Haymon. Together, they lived in Florida, Louisiana, and Alabama, where she was a wonderful homemaker, hostess, and cook. Upon her husband’s death, she moved to Douglasville, Georgia. They reunited in heaven after 32 years and 11 days. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who cherished her family. She was a member of Douglasville First United Methodist Church and the Lively Sunday School Class. She was a 54-year member of the International P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in law, Kathy and Paul Henry of Winston, Karen and Dennis Long of Oldsmar, Florida, and Kim and Sam Warren of Blairsville, Georgia. Four grandchildren, Sam and Georgianna Warren of Tallahassee, Florida, Scott and Patti Henry of Douglasville, Katie Henry of Douglasville, and Lyric Warren of Blairsville, Georgia. Four great grandchildren Morgan Warren of Kennesaw, Ga, Sabrina Warren of Tallahassee, Florida, and Wyatt and Jude Henry of Douglasville, Georgia, also survive. Nieces Sue Henderson and husband Ronney, Becky Cox and husband Ron, and Dock Henderson (husband of niece Andi Henderson, deceased), and all their children; and Ray Henderson were all cherished as well.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Al; her parents, her sister, Jo Prickett, and brother-in-law, Hank Prickett.
As per her wishes, a family celebration of life will be held at a later date and her body will be cremated with her ashes joining her parents, her husband, and her niece in the Atlantic Ocean.
Her family and friends are saddened by her death, yet also so very grateful to have had her in our lives for so long. What a gift to be touched by such a good mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, P.E.O. sister, and friend. It has been said it is impossible to get old when you look forward to the future, and she was always looking forward to the next visit by a relative or friend as well as for the next tea time. She will be greatly missed.
If you would like to make a donation in her name in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the P.E.O. Sisterhood at peointernational.org in the name of Katie Henry PCE Fund. We’d like to thank Benton House, Douglasville, and Guiding Light Hospice for the wonderful care they gave her.
