

Mr. Thomas “Tom” George Strealdorf, age 79, of Douglasville, GA passed away Friday, December 4, 2015. He was born October 27, 1936 in Brookport, NY. He spent much of his younger life growing up in Cranston, Rhode Island outside of Providence. Tom was a 1954 graduate of Cranston High School East, graduating Cornell University with a Bachelor degree and Auburn University with a Masters and Specialist Degree. He was a long-time Douglas County educator serving for many years as Principal of Douglas County High School and retiring as Principal of Winston Elementary School. After retirement, Tom served as Chairman of the Board of Education for Douglas County. Tom loved gardening, playing poker and traveling all over the world. He enjoyed watching sports, an avid fan of golf and football, and reading, especially the news. He loved cooking and was a grillmaster.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude Newman Strealdorf; a brother, John; and a sister Carol.
He is survived by his wife, Awilda Cruz; son, James Strealdorf; daughter, Sueanne Strealdorf Merritt; step-sons, Roberto Rodriguez and Alex Rodriguez and wife Sumner; a sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Walt Kittel; grandson, Ben Reid; granddaughters, Ashley Strealdorf and Carolina Rodriguez; as well as nieces, nephews and other family members.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A memorial service will be Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Pastor L. M. Spear, Jr. officiating.
