Virginia (Head) Hammond

Mrs. Virginia (Head) Hammond, age 92 (93 including her time in the womb), of Whitesburg, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 13, 2020. She was born on July 10, 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia. A loving mother, she raised five children, was a great cook, was a strong individual and a role model for her family. Devoted to the Lord, she served as the minister at Hammond Chapel and her husband served as a deacon. They welcomed all who wanted to hear the Word of God. Mrs. Hammond would pray for strangers and had a gift of touch for healing others. She raised registered chihuahuas for 10 years and worked off and on as a nurse at Austell Hospital.

Preceding her in death were her beloved husband of over 60 years, Roy William Hammond, Sr.; her parents, Drewmark and Mary Bell (Garmon) Head; son, Andrew Hammond; brother, Drewmark Head, Jr.; and grandchild, Kerry.

She is survived by sons, Roy (Sheila) Hammond, Jr. of McDonough, Georgia, Tony (Sandy) Hammond of Douglasville, Georgia, and Stanley (Marsha) Hammond of McDonough, Georgia; daughter, Dale (Danny) Hammond Scott of Whitesburg, Georgia; sisters, Dorothy, Mary and Barbara; daughter-in-law, June Hammond of Barnesville, Georgia; grandchildren, Jody, Pam Tracey, Cher, Ryan, Andria, David Allen, Teresa, Victoria, Robert and Don; and 22 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Mozley Memorial Gardens 3180 S. Sweetwater Road Lithia Springs, Georgia 30122. A visitation will be immediately before the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mrs. Hammond to Tanner Medical Center 705 Dixie Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.
