Wilma Lou Burbank, age 85, of Griffin, Georgia, formerly of Douglasville and McDonough, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023. She was born August 30, 1938 in Woodlawn, Virginia. Wilma was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for her family. Wilma never met a stranger and loved to talk to all the folks she met. She retired from Civil Service at Fort McPherson, Georgia working as a Budget Analyst. Wilma later drove a school bus for 10 years with the Douglas County School System. She loved to dance, especially to the 50s old time rock ‘n roll—Elvis being her favorite. Wilma enjoyed being a military wife, giving her the opportunity to travel. One of her favorite places they lived was the Panama Canal Zone. Wilma was a member of First Baptist Church of Douglasville for several years.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband of 56 years, Doise Glenn Burbank; father, Okla Shumate; mother, Virginia Wahlquist; and son-in-law, Robert Collins.
Those left to cherish her memory are her only daughter, Terry Collins; brother, David Wahlquist (Jean); sisters, Charlotte Varela (Sonny) and Judy Grover (Charles); two grandchildren, Brandon Collins (Caitlin) and Jessica Collins; five great-grandchildren, Vince, Wyatt, Dean, James and Sadie; as well as numerous other extended family members.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. The funeral service will follow at Noon in the Rosehaven Chapel with Dr. John Pennington officiating. Following the service, Wilma will be laid to rest at Rosehaven Memorial Park.
