
Born March 27, 1923 in DuBois, he was a son of the late Edwin A. and Mabel E. (Allen) Overdorf. He was Protestant by faith.
John entered the U.S. Army on November 24, 1942 and achieved rank as Private First Class of Battery C Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion 5th Army. He served in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, South France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Eastern-African-Middle Eastern Therater Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was Honorably discharged on December 2, 1945.
He was the former owner of Overdorf Plumbing and Heating on West Long Avenue. He enjoyed hunting, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Avis, he is survived by three sons; John J. Overdorf, Jr. and his wife, Donna of DuBois, Edwin A. Overdorf and his wife Marla of DuBois, and Ladd A. Overdorf and his wife Karen of Wellsville,NY and three grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister, Ruth Ferguson of DuBois.
John is preceded in death by his parents; a great grandson, Jacob J. Overdorf; three brothers, William , James, and George Overdorf; and two sisters, Elizabeth Bucksbee and Florence Dunlap.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Lee officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 to 1:00pm.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery, DuBois.
