

Born on September 7, 1917 in Adrian (Delancy) a daughter of the late Charles A. and Clara R. (Shaffer) Nelson. She was a Sandy High School graduate of class 1936 where she was a member of the TaWasi Women’s Club.
Mrs. Grinnen was employed with Owens Brockway Glass and retired after 17 years as a waitress for Penn Traffic. For 26 years, she had volunteered with DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Grinnen joined and became the longest living active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Around 18 years of age, she accepted the Lord. She taught Sunday school, Bible School, and the Good News Club. She was the financial secretary of the church and the president of the United Methodist Women’s Club. Mrs. Grinnen was also a member of the Ruby Iams Women’s Guild, DuBois Women’s Club, and the DuBois Garden Club.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Grinnen is survived by two daughters, Ruth Shaffer and her husband, John of Strasburg and Clara Mae Ireland of Lancaster, PA; a son, Irvin W. Grinnen and his wife Kathleen of York Springs; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; two brothers, Devere and William Nelson; and two sisters, Josephine Smith and Mae Thompson.
A funeral service will be at 11:00am Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc. Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 2 to 4:00pm and 7 to 9:00pm. An additional visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00am until the time of service. Burial will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park.
