Carrie Bloodworth Thigpen

Mrs. Carrie Elizabeth Bloodworth Thigpen, age 88, passed away in a local hospital on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Thigpen was born on July 27, 1923, in McIntyre, GA, the first of nine children born to Ralph Morgan and Sarah Elizabeth Dyes Bloodworth.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thigpen will be held on March 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Adams Funeral Home, Dublin, GA., with the Rev. Sam Yarbrough and Darrell Keith Thigpen officiating. Interment will follow in the Brewton Cemetery, in Brewton, GA.

Mrs. Thigpen was a graduate of Condor High School, in East Dublin, GA. Following graduation, Mrs. Thigpen was employed as Switchboard Operator with Southern Bell, for a number of years. She later became employed at the Naval Ordnance Plant, in Macon, GA. during WWII where she weighed gunpowder for a number of years. Later on, she worked for a number of years as a nurse practitioner at the Laurens Memorial Hospital. During the later years of her life, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Brewton Baptist Church, Brewton, GA.

Ms. Thigpen was predeceased by her husband, Jack Dempsey Thigpen; daughter Barbara Ann Thigpen; three sons, William Morgan Thigpen, Richard Franklin Thigpen, and Kenneth Edward Thigpen; grandson Richard Earl Thigpen; great-granddaughter Jasmine Donna Marie Howard; her parents Ralph Morgan Bloodworth, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Dyes Bloodworth; three brothers, Ralph Morgan Bloodworth, Jr., James Russell Bloodworth, and Francis Eugene Bloodworth; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her daughter, Iris Elizabeth Thigpen (David) Howard; three sons, Jack Donald (Linda) Thigpen, Edwin Keith Thigpen, and Roy Marvin Thigpen; daughter-in-law Jean Thigpen Bailey; ten grandchildren Donna Renee Thigpen Yarbrough, Darrell Keith Thigpen, Loretta Lynn Thigpen Lewis, Mary Elizabeth Thigpen Oxford, Richard Franklin Thigpen II, John David Howard, Nicole Howard, Sherry Lynn Howard Woodard, Cheryl Nicole Thigpen, Tracy Nicole Thigpen; eleven great grandchildren Kelly Dwayne Mullis, Richard Kelvine Mullis, Candice Renee Yarbrough Barrera, Carrie Marie Oxford, Anna Beth Yarbrough, Charmaine Lexxi Chere Howard, Kaydence Nicole Howard, Cierra Makinnley Thigpen, Samuel Lee Yarbrough, Cayden Keith Thigpen, Richard Franklin Thigpen III; two sisters Carolyn Bloodworth (Lee) Rister, Lizella, GA and Sarah Bloodworth (Charles) Purvis, Eatonton, GA; three brothers, Richard Lawrence Bloodworth, Stillmore, GA; William Raymond Bloodworth and Jerry Allen Bloodworth, both of McIntyre, GA; a number of nieces and nephews; and one close family caregiver Diane King.

Visitation will be on March 2nd from 6 to 8 PM at Adams Funeral Home, Dublin, GA.

Pallbearers will be Jack Donald Thigpen, Edwin Keith Thigpen, Roy Marvin Thigpen, David Howard, John David Howard, Darrell Keith Thigpen.

Honorary Pallbearers is Richard Franklin Thigpen II.
