After graduating Central Michigan University Mr. Koontz joined the U.S. Army. Afterward, he worked as an Auditor for the IRS. He owned Thunderbay Accounting in Alpena, Michigan. He was both broker and owner of Banner Realty in Dublin, Georgia.
Mr. Koontz is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Juanita Koontz, one son George Mark and Lina Koontz, one daughter, Nancy J. and Rex Abbott, 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 3 nephews
