It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Christine "Chris" L. Kelley, who departed this life on July 13, 2024, at Springfield, Ohio Regional Medical Center following complications from gallbladder surgery. She was 76 years old.
Chris was born on May 3, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, and from an early age, she radiated an enthusiasm for life, culture, and the people around her. She cultivated a deep appreciation for live theater and symphonies, passions that she shared with her late husband, Gary. Together, they explored the world, embarking on adventures that spanned continents, but found equal joy in the comfort of their home in Dublin, Ohio. Their partnership was one of true love and mutual respect, a model for all who knew them.
Although Chris and Gary did not have children of their own, Chris embraced her role as a devoted aunt to her nieces, nephews, and cousins, from the Kelley, Whitman, and Waters families. She showered them with the same love and care she would have given her own children, always taking the time to listen, support, and nurture them. Chris’ warmth and generosity extended beyond her family; her friends were cherished just as deeply, and she was known for making everyone feel welcome and valued in her presence.
Chris obtained multiple graduate degrees, including Master’s Degrees in business, accounting and social work. She opened her own travel agency and worked with numerous non-profit and governmental organizations including planned parenthood and Franklin County Juvenile Court. She selflessly dedicated countless hours volunteering to better the communities in which she lived.
In recent years, Chris faced her health challenges with grace and strength, navigating the hardships of her illness with the same resilience she exhibited throughout her life. Despite the complications following her surgery, Chris remained courageous and true to herself until her final moments. She will be remembered for her zest for life, her generosity of spirit, and the love she shared with everyone she touched.
Chris is survived by her brother, Jim, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who were blessed to be part of her life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gary Gunderman who passed away in 2021.
A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Dr., Dublin, Ohio, 43017 on September 21 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, where her family and friends will gather to honor the incredible woman she was and the joy she brought to so many.
As we remember Chris, let us celebrate her adventures, her warmth, and the lasting imprint she has left on all our hearts. Her memory will remain with us always, a shining example of a life well-lived and well-loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Chris' name to a charity of your choice, honoring her spirit of generosity and compassion.
Rest in peace, Chris. You will be forever missed and forever loved
