Dale Dougal, 94, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away on August 3, 2024. He was born on June 1, 1930, in Van Wert, Ohio, to the late Paul and Ruth Dougal. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. He was drafted overseas to Korea when he was 18. He then attended and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture. Throughout his career, he traveled an area of five states, supplying greenhouses with their products. Aside from his career, in his spare time he loved to garden and landscape and took great pride in his yard.
Dale never missed a football game. As an avid fan, many weekends you could find him watching his beloved Buckeyes either in person with his season tickets or on television during their away games. However, no greater joy came to an Ohio State fan than when they defeated that state up north. Dale was a member of The Ohio State University’s President’s Club.
He was a longtime member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Dale was a 70+ year member of the York Lodge #218 in Van Wert. He loved to sing and was part of the Dublin Singers, a community-based chorus. He was also an artist, creating many pieces he was proud of. As an avid animal lover, he loved any kind of animal from dog to duck- stopping to feed the ducks when they looked to be hungry. Dale was a world traveler alongside his wife Eleanore. Together they traveled to many countries while creating a lifetime of memories together.
Dale knew no stranger. Everyone he met became his friend as he was interested in learning about people. He always had a question to ask. He enjoyed being able to find the similarities he had with others either through where they were from or the places they’d traveled. He always had a joke in his back pocket ready to pull out at any time to fill a room with laughter. He was amazing at sales because he spent the first part of the meeting learning about the person he was with and not just the job. He was quick witted, kind, generous, caring and social. He was proud of his family – especially his grandchildren.
On August 27, 1955, he married Eleanore, and they went on to have 69 years of marriage, creating a beautiful life together. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Eleanore, two wonderful children, Christine Dougal and Adam Dougal, and three grandchildren Adam Ryan Dougal, Erin Dougal and Evan Dougal. He is survived by his sister-in-law Phyllis Dougal and two nieces Dolly and Sharon Dougal. Dale is preceded in death by his three infant children, his parents, and his brother Paul.
A visitation will be held at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017 on on Saturday August 10, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a service immediately following at 10:30 a.m.
