Daniel Geswein, 77, of Dublin, Ohio passed away on May 10, 2024, having been surrounded by countless family and friends that loved him deeply. He was a dedicated family man, a devout Catholic, and a passionate aviator.
Daniel was born on January 25, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Dr. Gerard and Mrs. Jane Geswein. He grew up in Ironton, Ohio and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1965 where he excelled in multiple sports including football, basketball, and baseball. After high school he attended Ohio University where he graduated in 1969 with his BBA.
While attending Ohio University, Daniel earned his pilot’s license which began a lifelong love of aviation, having piloted numerous aircraft over the course of his forty-year military and civilian career. He served his country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1975, and then in the Ohio Air National Guard from 1976 to 1991 where he retired with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He earned numerous accolades including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
He continued his career as a pilot in the civilian world where he flew for Southern Air Transport From 1977 to 1989, then as a captain with US Airways from 1990 to 2003, and finally with NetJets from 2003 until his retirement in 2010. His passion for the skies did not stop in retirement, and he continued to travel the world with his loved ones.
Daniel loved playing sports, especially golf and tennis, although he would frequently abandon the game of golf. He enjoyed attending Ohio State University football games and was a devoted member of St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church in Dublin, Ohio. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 41 years Janet Geswein; children Jerry (Mimi) Geswein, Valerie (Don) Cowette, Mike (Amy) Geswein, and Andrea (Alex) Condos. Daniel’s memory will be carried on by his five grandchildren Jack, Layne, and Kate Geswein, Sam and Evan Cowette. He is also survived by his brother Gary (Cathy) Geswein and sister Janice O’Herron (Mike Eberhardt).
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 4:00–7:00 PM at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 11:30 AM with a luncheon immediately after at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, 7179 Avery Road, Dublin, Ohio 43017.
