Diane Shelley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away suddenly on June 1, 2026. Though her passing was unexpected, there is comfort in knowing that her final days were spent doing what she loved most - being with family while celebrating her sister Nancy's 70th birthday. Diane was a devoted wife, a loving mother of five, and a proud grandmother of fifteen, all of whom were among the greatest blessings of her life.
Diane was born to Thomas Misavage and Barbara (Stine) Misavage on March 3, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio. As the oldest of five children, she developed a deep love for family that remained at the center of her life. She graduated from Bowsher High School in 1967 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Toledo.
In 1969, she married the love of her life, Michael Shelley, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 57 years. Together, they built a loving home while living in Strongsville, Toledo, Gahanna, Rochester, and eventually settling in Dublin, Ohio, forming cherished friendships and creating a community of people they considered family along the way.
Diane loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas, on Caribbean cruises, and to the beaches of Florida. At home, she was an avid Beatles fan, enjoyed Barry Manilow concerts, and loved taking her children and later her grandchildren to Broadway plays and musicals. Summer days often meant floating in the pool with chips, salsa, and a margarita (or two!), followed by spirited board games with her sisters, where everyone kept track of who had won the most Aggie games. She was also a familiar face in the stands, enthusiastically cheering on her children and grandchildren at countless sporting events.
A woman of quiet faith, Diane found spiritual homes in several church communities over the years, including Northwest United Methodist Church, Linworth United Methodist Church, and New Hope Reformed Church. She lived her faith through her love of family and by being the person everyone could count on for a listening ear, thoughtful advice, and unwavering support.
Throughout her life, Diane met every challenge with strength and grace. In 2003, her sister Nancy gave her the gift of a kidney transplant, a selfless act of love that allowed Diane many more treasured years with her husband, children, and fifteen grandchildren. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the memories she created, the traditions she passed on, and the love she gave so generously. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Diane is survived by her beloved husband, Michael Shelley, and her children, Brian, Brooke (Mark) Morris, Thomas (Catherine), Alissa (Zach) Weiser, and Meredith (Pete) Shier. Being "Grandma" was one of the most treasured roles of her life, and she adored her fifteen grandchildren: Owen, Bailey, and Laney Morris; Cade, Calin, Adelaide, and Emmeline Shelley; Hayden, Haddie, and Harper Weiser; and Jaksen, Brynn, Ty, Tinley, and Bryce Shier. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Mary (Rob) Chirnside and Nancy (Bob) Rhonehouse, along with their families; her sisters-in-law, Valeeta (Keith) Fager, Carolyn (Jim) Beckman, and Maureen King, along with their families; and her dear Stine cousins, who shared a lifelong bond that made them feel more like siblings than cousins.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Barbara (Stine) Misavage, her brother Tommy Joe, and her sister Patricia Donovan.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Diane's life during visitation on Wednesday, June 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, at the funeral home. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow the service, and all are welcome to attend.
