

He was preceded in death by his parents Verna (Ruffing) and Leonard Schostek, both originally from Norwalk, Ohio, and his brother Dave (Marianne) of Aurora, Ohio,
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Lou (Sidman), and children Jean Klinkenberg (Charles) of Medina, Ohio, Rick (Doreen) of Dublin, Ohio, Lois Heffernan (Terry) of Hilliard, Ohio and John (Tracy) of Carmel, Indiana. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Jessica Klinkenberg (Matt Olsen), Greg Schostek and Anne (Jason) Young, and Ari and Tyler Schostek; two great-grandchildren: Sadie and Avery Young; and many nieces and nephews.
He was born November 7, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, where he attended St. Ignatius High School, graduating with highest honors. He then attended General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan (now Kettering University) where he graduated with a BBA degree in Human Resources. While there he earned various scholastic and extra-curricular achievement awards.
He worked for General Motors for 43 years, holding positions as Human Resource Director at Fisher Body and Inland Fisher Guide manufacturing facilities in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio and Anderson, Indiana before retiring in 1992. After his retirement, he and his wife moved back to the Columbus area, residing in the Hayden Falls Condominium development and later Friendship Village in Dublin.
In Anderson, Indiana he served on the Board of Trustees of the Madison County United Way and was Chairperson of its 1991 United Way campaign.
He was active in church work throughout his life and was a choir member of various churches for over fifty years, including 10 years when he directed the men’s choir at Christ the King Church in East Cleveland, Ohio.
He served on the Board of Trustees of the Hayden Falls Condominiums for 12 years, including nine years as President.
He enjoyed various sports activities including baseball, fast-pitch softball, basketball, bowling, table tennis and golf. He and his wife also played competitive duplicate bridge for twenty years.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 until 1957, with assignments in New York City Third Naval District Headquarters and the aircraft carrier Saratoga.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at St. Brendan Navigator Church, 4475 Dublin Rd. Hilliard, OH 43016, where family will receive friends at 10 am, an hour prior to Mass.
A celebration of life will also be held at Friendship Village of Dublin at a future date
