
George Tolliver Laurence passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the age of 96. Born August 21, 1926, to the late Henry Auburn Laurence and Anna Belle Turner Laurence, George grew up in Lawrence County,Tennessee, with his six brothers and sisters.
He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, serving as a Corporal Mortar Gunner and Sharpshooter in Korea with the 7th Division, 32nd Infantry Regiment. After his honorable discharge from the Army, George met and married the love of his life, Norma Jean Williams Laurence. They recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
In 1947 he joined National Cash Register as a field technician. George and Jean criss-crossed the United States in nine long-distance moves with their two children, Michael and Amy, as George’s career advanced. In 1958 George was selected to be one of NCR’s first twelve computer hardware installation specialists, transitioning NCR from cash registers to include the computer industry. Before George retired after 42 years of service to NCR, he created a keyboard innovation for NCR’s installation at Ohio’s Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in Columbus, Ohio.
During his earthly lifetime, George was active in the “I Found It” campaign, assisting seekers in finding a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. George was a founding member of Dublin Baptist Church; a deacon and member of Grace Brethren Church in Westerville; and a founding member of Agora Church of Dublin, Ohio.
George was an exceptional handyman, avid builder, gardener, beekeeper, chess player, painter of miniature landscape art, and above all, a devoted family man.
George was preceded in death by his son, Michael George Laurence.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Laurence; his daughter Amy Rebecca Laurence; his brother, Buell Joyce Laurence of Simpsonville, South Carolina; and his sister, Doris June Palmer of Cullman, Alabama.
Family will receive friends at SCHOEDINGER DUBLIN, 5980 Perimeter Dr. Dublin, OH 43017, Friday, September 23, from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11am. Entombment to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park.
