Gilbert “Gib” Marquis

Gilbert “Gib” E. Marquis, age 94, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on July12, 2026. He was born to the late Ralph and Gladys Marquis on July 13,1931 in New Springfield, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Alma Crittenden and brother Gerald Marquis.

Gib was a 1949 graduate of Struthers High School and a 1958 graduate of Youngstown State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict as a military policeman. He retired as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service after 27 years.

He was a season ticket holder to the Columbus Jazz Orchestra concerts and a member of the Central Ohio Hot Jazz Society. Gib was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Guardians, Cleveland Browns, Columbus Clippers and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was also active player for many years in the “Over 70” senior softball league.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret “Peg” (Householder), children Michael Marquis, Jennifer (John) Gibbons, and granddaughter Grace Marquis.
