Born on April 18, 1939, Gil grew up in New York City before making Dublin, Ohio, his home – a place he truly loved living. He built a career as a software developer and proudly served his country in the Army in Germany, where he was stationed as a guard at Spandau Prison.
Gil had a deep appreciation for the natural world. He loved trees, parks, green spaces, and animals, and considered himself a naturalist. He was also a devoted hockey fan, especially of the Columbus Blue Jackets, and enjoyed starting his mornings with breakfast at Hellas restaurant. Gil loved trivia and was always happy to share his knowledge – he was quite certain he knew it all.
Above all, Gil loved his country and the people in his life. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Cook) Schwartz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Florence (Cohen) Schwartz; his sister, Barbara Tepper; and his brother, Paul Schwartz.
Gil will be remembered for his curiosity, his love of nature and country, his humor, and his generous spirit. He had the coldest hands but the warmest heart, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Home Reach Hospice in Gil’s memory.
