Jack L. Canaday, age 101, passed away at Doctor’s Hospital on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Jack was a longtime resident of the west side of Columbus. He graduated from Central High School in 1943. He soon enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years on a P.T. Boat in World War II as a gunner’s mate.
After the war, he met and married Betty Cook. Jack started his career at IGEL as a superintendent as a young man. After 17 years there, he set out on his own. He owned and operated Canaday Grading Service, where he excelled to become the expert at grading many local golf courses. He remained there until he retired at the age of 65.
He also raised an amazing family. His wife, Betty, passed away just eight weeks earlier. They were together for 80 years and married for nearly 76 years. He is survived by his children, Christy (Ken) Eversole and Terry (Cindy) Canaday; grandsons Kelsey (Ally) Eversole, Cory (Amanda) Eversole, Clinton Canaday, Brandon (Shelby), and Austin Canaday; and great-granddaughters Presley Jean and Mia June Eversole. Pups Tucker and Roczi will greatly miss their grandpa. Jack will also be deeply missed by his loving family.
