

John J. Freer, 88, was welcomed into God's arms July 18, 2026. John will be remembered for being a loving husband, and a great father, grandfather and father-in-law. He loved his career of nearly 40 years with Firestone Rubber Co., working in the yard, and was a big Ohio State Buckeye fan, attending games for 50 years. John, born March 15,1938, grew up on a farm in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and was an alumni of The Ohio State University, where he met the love of his life, Diane. They spent 62 wonderful years together and had 2 boys. John was very proud to have served in the US Navy, as he was a true patriot and loved his country. He will be missed for his loyalty, strength and unique ability to make friends, and talk to anyone at great length about anything. He always loved being surrounded by family and being involved in his children's and grandchildren's lives and activities.
John is proceeded in passing by his wife Diane; parents John and Emma; sisters Jane and Elizabeth; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
John is survived by sons Jay(Susan) and Mike (Deidra); grandsons Jon(Emma) and Dustin(Erin); great grandsons Aiden and Ivo; nieces Cindi(Albert) and Becky(Joe); nephews Scott(Kimberley) and Joe(Lisa).
A military graveside service will be held Friday, August 7, 2026, at 1pm at Newark Memorial Gardens in Newark, Ohio. Family and friends will celebrate John's life on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 2pm at John's home in Dublin, Ohio.
