John Stephen Vogel Sr.

John Stephen Vogel, Sr, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on August 20, 2026, at the age of 87 surrounded by his loving wife of 68 years and his five children.

Born on February 28,1939 in Columbus, Ohio, John was the son of George Francis Vogel and Mary Jane (Miller) Vogel. He grew up in German Village alongside his two sisters, Mary Frances, Anne, his brother, Richard, and his cousin, Jack Elliott, where he was a 1957 graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic High School, Columbus, Ohio. That is where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Anna Louise (Dixon), on September 6, 1958.

After getting married, John began his real estate career by purchasing a gas filling station in 1965 on the corner of South Third and Frankfort Streets in German Village. His brother Richard (Dick) worked at Vogel’s Sinclair Service station. John went on to build a career in mortgage banking.

John was a veteran serving in the Ohio Army National Guard from 1957 to 1968 achieving the rank of 1st lieutenant followed by an extensive career in the mortgage banking industry where he established his own mortgage company, Mortgage Corp of Ohio. John was incredibly proud of his 30+ year career in the mortgage banking industry where he built meaningful connections with colleagues and clients, many of whom became lifelong friends.

A lifelong, devout Catholic, John was a longtime parishioner of St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharist Minister, Usher, and was proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Outside of work, John was an avid Ohio State fan and enjoyed traveling with his wife in their 39-foot Bounder RV across the country with many fun experiences, creating new lifelong friendships with many stories to tell.

Above all, John built a life centered around his family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Ann Vogel, his 5 children: Tina Vogel Kuba (Robert), Mark Vogel (Kathy), Jennifer Vogel Hardee (Ken), John Vogel Jr. (Megan), and Jeffrey Vogel (Laura), his 8 grandchildren, Brittany Campbell (Garrin), Brandon Leonardi, David Vogel (Mary), Steven Vogel (Megan), John Russell, Olivia Hardee, Phoebe (Eric) Seefried, Emerson Vogel, Jack Vogel, Samantha Vogel, and his 9 great grandchildren: Rhiannon, Ethan, Mason, Madelyn, Eleanor, Evelyn, Josephine, Bunni and Alice and his sister Anne L. Eisel, nephews Daniel Eisel, David Eisel, Brad Eisel, Eric Vogel, Greg Vogel and Kathy Donley, and his cousin Jack Elliott, in addition to his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Jane Vogel, his sister, Mary Frances Vogel, and his brother, Richard J. Vogel.

John will be remembered for the love he gave, lessons he shared, and lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate to know him. He will be loved, remembered, and missed more than words can say.

Family and friends are warmly invited to celebrate John’s life with visitation being held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on August 25, 2026 at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive Dublin, Ohio 43017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on August 26, 2026 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, 7179 Avery Road Dublin, Ohio 43017 officiated by Father Black with lunch following and a graveside service at 1:30 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery 6440 S. High St. Lockbourne, Ohio 43137.
