

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we remember the life of Joseph Albert Float Jr. who passed away in Marysville, Ohio on March 11, 2026 at the age of 73. Known to friends and family as ‘Joe’ he leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, music, and family.
Joe was born on May 21, 1952 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he spent much of his childhood. He returned to attend the University of Pittsburgh, of which he was a proud graduate. His affinity for Pittsburgh prompted an enthusiasm for all things Pitt throughout his entire life. Education became a lifelong pursuit as he later earned his MBA in Business and then driven by a spiritual calling, continued his academic journey and ultimately earned a PhD in Theology and Jungian Philosophy.
Joe dedicated much of his professional life as a public servant in the Union County Ohio court system, where he served with integrity, fairness, and compassion. Over the course of a long and respected career, he became known not only for his professionalism and wisdom, but for the kindness and humanity he brought to every person who crossed his path.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and physical activity with running, biking and swimming being his favorite activities. Music was also a large part of his world. Joe was an accomplished musician known for his love of playing the bass, guitar and banjo. Whether playing, listening, or sharing songs with friends and family, he found joy and comfort in melody and rhythm. His music often brought people together and created moments of warmth that will live on in memory.
Above all, he was a loving father to his three cherished children, who were the pride and center of his life. From his first marriage he leaves behind his 2 older sons who are now grown men with families of their own. They carry forward the lessons, strength, and love he gave them throughout their lives. From his second marriage, he leaves behind his beloved 9 year old son, who brought him endless pride and joy. His love will continue to shape all their lives for years to come.
Those who knew Joe will remember his thoughtful conversations and authenticity.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jennifer (Salyer) Float, and their son, Jonah Float. He is also survived by his sons, Jamison Float (Rachel Lawless) and Jeremy Float (Megan Float), and by their mother, Judith Float.
He leaves behind his sisters, Debbie McColgan, Lisa Fazzio, and Deanna Beachy; his brothers, Charles Float and John Float; and nine grandchildren: Sienna, Bellicia, Brayden, Robert, and Audrey (Jamison’s children), and Emerson, Hudson, Greyson, and Colton (Jeremy’s children) and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Joe that will be held at 5:30pm on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 311 East 6th St, Marysville, OH.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The James Cancer Research Center to help support cancer research and patient care in memory of Joseph Float Jr.
