Joe Racan born on September 26th 2001 and passed away on August 16th 2023 at the age of 21. He is survived by his immediate family that includes his mother & father Julie & Joe and two sisters Adeline and Lauren. He also leaves behind two grandparents Mary Lou Hoffman & Joseph Racan as well as an extended family of aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Deborah Racan and Donald Hoffman. His entire family mourns the loss of this kind, loving, and compassionate person.
Those who knew Joe knew of his strong empathy for others and his ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him. Joe had an energy that drew you into the conversation and ensured that everyone felt important and a part of the event. His infectious smile and outgoing personality always left you wanting to spend more time with him. He was the best big brother to his sisters and would always put them ahead of his own needs. Joe’s absence in his family and in this world will be substantial and felt by those lives that he touched.
Joe was majoring in Biology at OSU and had always dreamt of being an Ohio State Buckeye – there was no other university for him. While attending OSU he was a proud, active and passionate member of the TKE fraternity wherein he will be sorely missed.
Joe took pleasure in many sports and few could match his knowledge on statistics surrounding the game of football. Joe was a 2020 graduate from Dublin Jerome High School. While in high school he wrestled and played football. He had a way of unifying the team and ensuring that his teammates felt like they were a part of the match or game. Prior to his high school years, as a family, we spent many evenings cheering him on breaking boards and becoming a third degree black belt in Taekwondo.
Joe loved the water whether poolside, at the lake or on the beach. During our family trips we watched him progress from digging holes to architecting spectacular castles all the while being buried by his siblings as he always obliged. Joe also enjoyed sitting fireside with his friends listening to music. His music playlist and knowledge was amazing spanning multiple genres appealing to both young and old and he would spend hours sharing his love for music.
We will be holding a visitation on Tuesday, August 22 from 4-7pm to celebrate all our memories of Joe. This will be followed by a funeral service at 7pm.
In lieu of flowers or donations please consider what people are going through day in and day out and please be kind and generous to one another.
