With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Karen Louise (Cosgray) Rogers, of the Dublin area, originally of Marysville, Ohio, who passed away on August 14, 2026, at the age of 46 after a courageous four-year battle with sarcoma.
Karen was a proud 1998 graduate of Fairbanks High School, where she was a dedicated volleyball and basketball player. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and later completed her graduate studies at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. During her time there, she fell in love with the charm, history, and coastal beauty of Charleston, a place that always held a special place in her heart. She treasured every opportunity to return and create new memories there with her family.
Above all else, Karen was a devoted wife and mother. She married the love of her life, Tom, on June 12, 2010, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Her greatest joy and life's purpose were her three sons, James, Hudson, and Corbin. Every decision she made and every dream she pursued was centered on giving her boys a life filled with love, encouragement, and opportunity. She was their biggest cheerleader, fiercest advocate, and constant source of comfort.
Karen found joy in the simple things she loved most. She enjoyed tending her garden, nurturing every plant with the same care she gave to the people she loved. She was also her boys' biggest fan, happily spending countless hours at practices, games, tournaments, and school events. There was nowhere she would rather have been than on the sidelines, cheering them on and celebrating every milestone, big or small.
Karen's love of animals began when she was very young. As a child, she showed pets through 4-H and was always bringing home or caring for any wildlife she could help. That passion stayed with her throughout her life. She later had the opportunity to work at the Columbus Zoo, a job that combined her love of animals and learning. She especially enjoyed sharing her love of the zoo with her boys and creating those memories with them.
A dedicated elementary school teacher with Dublin City Schools, including the last several years at Depp Elementary, Karen believed deeply in the power of learning. She inspired countless students with her patience, compassion, and enthusiasm, helping them discover confidence in themselves and a love of learning. Her classroom was a place where every child felt seen, valued, and capable.
Even as she faced sarcoma over the past four years, Karen met every challenge with extraordinary courage, determination, and grace. She never allowed her illness to define her. Instead, she continued to focus on her family and the things she loved, remaining a source of strength, hope, and love for those around her. Her determination throughout those four years was remarkable and inspired everyone who had the privilege of walking beside her.
Karen will be remembered for her gentle spirit, patience, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She had a way of making people feel comfortable, supported, and loved. She cared deeply about the people and animals in her life, and she gave generously of her time and herself.
Karen is lovingly survived by her husband of 16 years, Tom; her three sons, James, Hudson, and Corbin; her parents, Mark and Patti Cosgray of Marysville; her parents-in-law, Mike and Sue Rogers of Westerville; her sister, Laura (Brian) Davis of Marysville; sister-in-law Katie Rogers her nieces and nephew, Kaitlin McCasland, Callie Davis, and Maguire Davis; as well as many extended family members, dear friends, colleagues, and former students. And last but not least, she is also survived by their dog Murray, who was a constant companion and source of comfort to Karen over the last several months.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arthur and Evelyn (Schneider) Charlton of Marysville, and her paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Dorothy (Andrews) Cosgray of Plain City.
Karen's life was far too short, but she filled those years with a tremendous amount of love. Her greatest legacy will always be her three boys and the life she built with them and Tom. The kindness she showed others, the students she encouraged, the animals she cared for, and the countless people she made feel loved will all be part of the way she is remembered.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, students, and everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. Most of all, she will be missed by the three boys who were the center of her world and who will always carry their mom's love with them.
Visitation will be held on Saturday August 22 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm with a service immediately following at 4:00pm at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive Dublin, Ohio 43017. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to Steps for Sarcoma https://giveto.osu.edu/makeagift/details/314006.
