Melisa Ann Ackerman

Melisa Ann Ackerman, 56, of Dublin, passed away on August 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer—one she met with unwavering dignity, grace, and a quiet strength that inspired everyone who walked beside her.

Born and raised in Fredericktown, Ohio, Melisa grew up with a natural spark: athletic, involved, and always striving, excelling in multiple sports and school activities and proudly earned her place on the Honor Roll. Her love of learning and leadership carried her to Bowling Green State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education & Applied Sciences with a specialization in Sports Management. She later served eight dedicated years on the BGSU Alumni Board, a testament to her loyalty and pride in the community that shaped her.

After graduation, Melisa moved to Columbus, where she discovered her true calling in Human Resources. She began her HR career at the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), hiring countless individuals—many of whom became her cherished lifelong friends. Her passion for people and mentorship guided her to earn a Master’s Degree in Labor and Human Resources from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business. She ultimately spent 18 years at Nationwide Insurance, where her camaraderie, professionalism, and steady presence left an enduring mark.

Melisa lived with a vibrant spirit that drew people in. She surrounded herself with those who were smart, generous, and loved to laugh—her favorite kind of people. Even on her hardest days, she remained kind, hopeful, and deeply connected to those she loved. Her laughter was unmistakable, her compassion effortless, and her support unwavering. She celebrated others’ victories as if they were her own and offered comfort during their challenges without hesitation.

Melisa shared an extraordinary bond with her twin sister, Melana—rooted in devotion, humor, and a lifetime of being each other’s safe place. They were each other’s confidant, best friend, and soulmate. Together, they found joy in simple moments—sharing a love of hockey as lifelong Columbus Blue Jackets fans and enjoying theater and music. Their shared passion was traveling the country and world, from Europe’s enchanting streets to restful resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean. Her favorite destination, London, England, held a special place in Melisa’s heart, and she visited multiple times with family and her close friend Brecke. Still, wherever she was with Melana, it felt like home.

Melisa loved to cook and entertain, creating spaces where people felt embraced, welcomed, and nourished. She was an avid reader, a loyal friend, and a devoted dog mom to her miniature schnauzer, Hubbell, who was her companion for fifteen loving years. She was also proud fur-auntie to many pets who adored her gentle presence.

To her family, Melisa was more than a sister—she was the one who kept everyone connected and carried forward the traditions that bound them together. Her absence leaves a space that can never be filled, yet her love remains deeply woven into the lives she touched.

Melisa is survived by her twin sister, Melana Dooley (Eric) of Dublin, Ohio; her brother Mike Ackerman (Deidre and daughter Kileigh) of Evergreen, Colorado; and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and loved ones who will forever carry her memory. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lori Ackerman, with whom she is now reunited in heaven.

Throughout her cancer journey, Melisa was cared for by the dedicated team at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital. Her sister Melana has honored her and countless others by riding in Pelotonia for 17 years to support cancer research.
