Paul was born April 8, 1938, to Eric and Mabel (Clausen) Bohman in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up listening to his favorite radio programs, playing stoop ball, and cheering on his Brooklyn Dodgers. Paul was the son of Swedish and Norwegian immigrants. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from City College of New York and then left the city to pursue his career in Owosso, Michigan, as a designer for Midland-Ross Automotive Company. It was there that he met his wife, Ann Arend, of East Lansing, Michigan, on a blind date. Following that first date, he informed his friends that he knew he was going to marry that girl and did so in November of 1965. Paul and Ann enjoyed nearly 60 years together, loving, supporting, and caring for each other.
They moved to St. Louis for Paul’s career to start his path in the medical supply industry. During their time in Missouri, Paul and Ann became proud parents to Eric John and Laura Ann. Paul embraced his role as a father and lived for every moment with his children. He was an avid photographer and used his talents to capture his ever-growing children and family through photos and Super 8 films, all of which are continued to be enjoyed by the generations he created.
Paul then took a position with Baxter Travenol in Round Lake, Illinois, managing a team of 16 engineers, which led him and his team to be credited with 12 different patents over the course of 10 years for medical materials such as those used in kidney dialysis.
The last 25 years of his more than 50-year career was spent at Smiths (fka Medex) Medical in Dublin, Ohio. Throughout his career, he was remembered for how he supported his co-workers and made sure his teams were always recognized and appreciated for their accomplishments.
Paul was known for his gift of storytelling, captivating his family and friends with tales of wisdom and humor. His commitment to lifelong learning inspired all who knew him.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter, skills that he felt great joy in passing along to his children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will live on through them forever.
One of Paul’s greatest sources of pride was when he earned the title of Grandpa/Papa B. His grandchildren were his everything and each had a unique and special relationship with him, including his cherished dog grandbabies.
Paul was a passionate cook and would often wear a chef’s hat while preparing meals. His grandchildren were all very fond of his steaks, which he would cook made-to-order for them. He loved to share his Scandinavian heritage and at Christmas the family would gather for storytelling, singing and dishes like Krumkake – a Norwegian waffle cookie. He loved to bake, create dishes using items from his garden and enjoyed sharing his recipes with family and friends. Anyone who knew Paul knew his love for ice cream and that multiple flavors and toppings would be waiting for you to share with him at his home. Think fondly of Paul and smile the next time you enjoy your favorite ice cream treat.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his son, Eric (Ledda) Bohman, their children, Elfrie Lara, Emma and Alec Bohman; his daughter Laura (Sean) Cameron, their children, Chase and Parker Cameron; his sister, Doreen (Wayne) Reither, their children, Alison and Jason Reither; and his cousin, Richard Bohman.
