Richard M. Nelson, 69, passed away at home in his favorite chair on June 22, 2026. Born on November 20, 1956, in Muskegon, Michigan. A graduate of Mercer High School, Richard built a successful career in sales management and was enjoying his retirement. While he took pride in his professional accomplishments, he often said his greatest achievement was his children and grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy and purpose to his life.
Richard was a member of the Methodist Church and found happiness in coaching youth sports, working out, attending every sporting event his children participated in, bird watching, hiking with his pups, writing, reading, golfing, hunting with high school friends, and completing his daily devotionals. He especially treasured conversations with his nutty brothers and watching his grandchildren grow. His favorite memories were simply those spent surrounded by family.
Those who knew Richard will remember him for his generous heart. Giving was his love language, and he freely gave his time, energy, wisdom, and compassion without ever expecting anything in return. He had a remarkable ability to light up any room with his warmth, love, and genuine interest in others.
Among Richard's personal writings were words that beautifully captured the way he hoped to be remembered: "Hopefully I will be remembered as one in a million rather than one of a million. When my time comes, know that I loved you..."
Richard is survived by his fiancée, Pam Bisker; his children, Kristen and Nicholas Weeden, Nathan and Katherine Nelson, and Kaitlyn Nelson and Brian Cox; his mother-in-law, Joan Brandt; his cherished grandchildren, Madison, Lucas, and Leo Weeden, and Roarke and Emma Nelson; his brothers, Mark and Melissa Nelson, Scott and Karen Nelson, Matt and Robin Nelson, and Michael Brandt; his nieces and nephews, Alexandra Nelson, Kinsey and Cole Scott, and Sydnie and Connor Nelson; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends; his faithful companions, Mingo and Lila; and his grand dogs, Izzy, Olive, and Nikita.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Lisa Nelson; his parents, Richard and Joan Nelson; father-in-law Arthur Brandt; and his nephew, Clayton Nelson.
Family and friends are invited to honor Richard's life during visitation on Thursday, July 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive Dublin, Ohio 43017. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Schoedinger Dublin. Richard will later be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Lisa, at Forest Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bird Conservation Fund in Richard's memory, honoring his lifelong love of bird watching.
