Ronald Irving Veatch

Ronald was born on October 23, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Irving Reynolds Veatch and Dorothy Myrtle Simons Veatch. Throughout his life, he was known for his quiet intellect, unwavering integrity, gentle spirit, and deep appreciation for the people and pursuits that brought meaning and joy to his life.

Ronald attended Park College in Parkville, Missouri, from 1961 to 1963, where he majored in music. It was there that he met the love of his life, Janet Troeglen. They were married on January 24, 1964, at Raytown Baptist Church, becoming the final couple to be married in the church's original chapel.

Ronald continued his education at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, completing his premedical studies and joining the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 1969 and completed his residency in Radiology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1973.

Throughout his distinguished career, he earned board certifications in Radiology, Nuclear Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Nuclear Cardiology. As a well-respected physician, Ronald was known for his dedication, expertise, and genuine compassion in caring for patients at several hospitals, including Winona Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Ohio Valley Hospital and Trinity Medical Center in Steubenville, Ohio. He helped advance the field of medicine through his leadership in clinical research trials and shared his knowledge as a sought-after speaker at professional conferences and community health education programs.

Beyond medicine, Ronald was a gifted musician. A talented French horn player, he performed with the Lima Symphony Orchestra, played in numerous church orchestras, and faithfully served as Minister of Music at his local church early in his career. His Christian faith remained the foundation of his life, and he devoted himself to serving others as an elder in several churches, most recently at Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Ohio. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army Reserve.

Ronald credited every professional accomplishment to Janet. With great affection, he created and presented her with a "PHT Degree"—the "Put Hubby Through Medical School" degree—in recognition of her sacrifices, encouragement, and unwavering support, knowing he could never have achieved his dream of becoming a physician without her.

Amid the demands and joys of medical training, Ronald and Janet welcomed their two children, Christina Joy and Ronald Scott. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and adventure. They shared countless memories boating and waterskiing across a glassy lake, skiing snow-covered mountains, playing joyful rounds of golf, and enjoying treasured days at the beach, where Ron perfected his windsurfing.

Above all else, Ronald was devoted to his Christian faith and to his family. He shared an extraordinary marriage with Janet for nearly 60 years, and together they created a legacy of love, commitment, and faithfulness. During retirement, they traveled extensively, continuing to create cherished moments side by side.

After Janet's passing in 2023, Ronald often reflected with gratitude on the beautiful life they had shared. He was especially thankful for their final year together, treasuring every moment and every memory they created.

Ronald is survived by his daughter, Christina (Kent) Walz; granddaughter, Alexis Walz; son, Scott (Danette) Veatch; grandchildren, Jonathon, Zadok, Daniel, Sol, and Harmony Veatch; brother, Fred (Deborah) Veatch; brother-in-law, Paul Whitaker; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet; his parents, Irving and Dorothy Veatch; and his younger sister, Patti Veatch Whitaker.

Visitation will be held at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio, on Sunday, August 16, 2026, beginning at 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed at www.schoedinger.com.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Luminary Hospice for the loving care they provided during Ronald's final days, allowing him to pass peacefully, comfortably, and surrounded by love.

As Ronald's family celebrates his remarkable life, they find comfort in the words of a hymn that brought Ron great peace after Janet's passing: he truly "went to sleep on earth and woke up in glory."
