Steve Dolen, affectionately known to many as Dad, Dad Dolen, GrandPa Steve, Stevo, Jocky, Papa D. and Djakovich, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, in Dublin, Ohio, at the age of 90. Born on February 4, 1935, in Gary, Indiana, Steve lived a remarkable life full of accomplishments, love, and laughter.
The son of Mirko and Catherine Djakovich, Steve attended the University of Toledo, Indiana University, and Wayne State University. He had a distinguished career in corporate finance at Chrysler Corporation, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and made invaluable contributions to the company.
Before embarking on his corporate journey, Steve served two years in the United States Navy, where he earned his cherished nickname, “Jocky.” His time in the service was just one chapter in a life that was marked by athleticism, discipline, and leadership.
Steve was a fierce competitor from his high school days in Gary, where he was a standout baseball catcher, a football quarterback, and state champion swimmer. His love for sports continued throughout his life, from his time on the field to his later years spent as an avid golfer and competitive bocce ball player.
But beyond his athletic and professional achievements, Steve was most passionate about his family. First and foremost, his marriage to his beloved “Dorth.” Steve and Dorothea’s relationship began in high school when he threw a firecracker in her direction to get her attention. From there, they embraced and relished 65 years of marriage. Traveling, playing golf, and spending time with friends and family is what they liked most.
Steve’s greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, who adored him. He was known for his good-natured teasing and his ability to make everyone feel at ease. His presence was comforting, and his humor and kindness will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Steve leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and the unforgettable bonds he formed with those around him. His family and friends will cherish the memories of his warm heart and his infectious spirit forever.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothea, his children, grandchildren, and many others whose lives he touched. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 4:00 PM at Friendship Village of Dublin, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and the many ways he made the world a better place.
Rest in peace, Steve. You will be forever missed.
