Born on the family farm in the Red River Valley near Argusville, ND to Elvin and Louise Madson, Gordon studied at Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo, ND followed by Concordia College Moorhead where he met his future wife Audrey and went on to graduate from NDSU with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served overseas in the US Army, and in 1958 his fiancee Audrey flew to Frankfurt, Germany where they were married. He worked in Grand Forks, ND as a city engineer for 7 years before moving to Duluth with his family in 1965. Gordon was a Duluth resident and member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for 46 years. He served on his church council and the St. Anne’s Residence Board of Directors for many years, was active in the professional engineering community, and was a founding partner of RREM Engineering which operated in downtown Duluth for 30 years.
Gordy was a gentle and loving man of few words whose soul was moved by his love of music and nature. He cared deeply for his family and friends, and enjoyed singing in the church choir, spending time attending concerts, traveling, canoeing, camping, hunting and fishing. He could never pass up a peanut butter cookie, and had an amazing knack for locating the best bakeries anywhere he traveled. Gordon was dearly loved by family and friends, and will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five older brothers Milton, Earl, Leslie, Burton, and John.
