

Hazel E. Lafler, 101, of Duluth, died peacefully with her family at the home of her niece and nephew, April and Tony Radzak of Twig on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. She was born on August 24, 1911 in Duluth to William and Julia (Gyllen) Guthrie.
Hazel married Paul W. Lafler in Santa Barbara, CA in 1940, where they resided until retiring in 1950, making their home on Hunter Lake. Hazel has been a longtime resident of Fredenberg and a very active member of the Fredenberg Community Chapel. Hazel was blessed with a long and happy life and was thankful for her family and many friends, especially Georgie Swanstrom and Randy and Jane Ecklund.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; brothers, Lawrence, William, and Melvin; sister, Julia; and nephew in law, Bill.
She is survived by sister, Shirley Nelson of Hoffman, MN; nieces, Mary Coleman of MO and April (Tony) Radzak of Twig; and step granddaughters, Barbara (Dan) Lendman of WY and Patricia (Garry) Buksa of OR. She is further survived by many special great and great great nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral service will be Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Bell Brothers, 601 N 56th Ave W at 1:30 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to service. Private interment at Oneota Cemetery.
Memorials preferred to Essentia Health Hospice.
