Jeanette Berggren, 78, of Port Wing, WI, formerly of Proctor, passed away at Essentia Health in Duluth under the care of hospice on April 9, 2011.

Jeanette was born in Browerville, MN on August 27, 1932 to Joseph and Susie (Gafke) Hossalla. She moved to Duluth at a young age and graduated from Morgan Park High School. Later Jeanette attended Duluth Business University for a short time before working for several area businesses including Minnesota Power and First National Bank of Proctor. On July 27, 1957 she was united in marriage to Chester Erwin Berggren. In 1994 after 28 years of service, Jeanette retired as Vice President from First National Bank. A short time later the couple moved to Port Wing. Jeanette was a ball of energy and it was difficult to keep up with her. She enjoyed traveling and fishing for walleye as well as gardening and reading. The couple went on several cruises that included Caribbean and Alaskan destinations. Jeanette had a fondness for jigsaw puzzles, cooking and feeding the birds that would frequent her feeders. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Richard.

Jeanette is survived by her husband Chester; 2 children, Cathy Berggren of Proctor and Bruce (Jane) Berggren of Duluth; 3 grandchildren, Katie and Jennie Magnuson and Amanda Berggren all of Duluth; brother, Ray (Nancy) Hossalla of Mesa, AZ; sister Bernice (Bob) Pillsbury of Duluth and many other family members and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful hospice staff at Essentia Health.

No services will be held at Jeanette’s request. Bell Brothers Funeral Home 218-624-5745.

Kirstin, Lara and I were so saddened to learn of Jeanette's illnes and death. Though we haven't been able to visit for a long time, all of us have very happy memories of visiting Duluth and seeing our family there. Jeanette was always welcoming and generous. The girls especially enjoyed visiting at Iron River. Our thoughts are with you at this time.

My condolences-
Tara & I visited with Jeanette on Monday, March 28th at St Mary's. She seemed anxious to go home, what a turn around in just a few days. We all feel lucky to have known her. I have many, many fond memories in years gone by. Anything that you need that I can help with, don't hesitate to ask. My prayers are with you.
