She was a Duluth Central graduate. After graduating she worked for Bell Telephone Company, traveling to many parts of the country. She married the love of her life, Richard F. Olson on May 19, 1962. Joan worked at a number of local businesses doing office work.
Joan was a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Duluth chapter. She also helped out for many years as an assistant girls scout leader.
Throughout her life, Joan enjoyed watching and participating in various sports. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, needle point, fishing, and spending time with her family at the family cabin. Joan and Dick took pleasure in taking many bus trips around the country meeting new friends and sightseeing. Joan especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard F. Olson; son-in-law, Jon Urban; sister, Jean; and brothers, Page and Robert.
Joan will be greatly missed by her children, Kristin (Steve) Bergerson of Duluth, Karen Urban of Superior, and son, Tom (Laura) Olson of Cloquet; four grandsons, Hunter, Cale, Cason, and Cody; and brother, Bill Cashin of Minneapolis.
