Age 86, of Duluth, passed away unexpectedly at her home Thursday, August 12, 2010.
Leola was born July 7, 1924 in Duluth, Minn., to Carl and Ruth Okerson. She was very proud to be a 1942 graduate of Duluth Central High School and on March 13, 1953 Leola married A. Arnold Amundson.
Leola worked at Elliot Meat Packing for 30 years and finished her career at Human Development Center as a Credit manager. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church and was a member if the Weslyn Circle, Copper Toppers and very active in the church office in addition to other volunteer activities.
After retirement Leola continued to be active and had a very busy social calendar. She was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Class of 42 Central Reunion Committee and an avid fan of UMD Men’s Hockey as a long time season ticket holder. She was a member of the Blueline and Bulldog Clubs and enjoyed bowling and watching her great grandson participation in sports.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold (1990); son Gerald (1981); sister Clarice Hewitt (2003);and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Ron) Ferraro, of Duluth; 7 grandchildren Randy(Christy) McGlocklin, Lisa (Joseph)Howell, Gerald Nuttal, James McGlocklin, John McGlocklin, William(Heidi) Amundson, Deana(Kevin) Nolan. She also had several great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. With her paternal relatives hailing from Rush City MN and her maternal relatives from Duluth, (both via Sweden), she had a large extended family throughout the Midwest.
In lieu of floral arrangements, memorials may be sent in her name to Shiners Hospital for Crippled Children or UMD Hockey Scholarship Fund.
Visitation from 11 am until the 12:00noon funeral service Wednesday, August 18th in First United Methodist Church, 230 E. Skyline Parkway. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
