Lori was born on April 13, 1942 to William and Elvira Reid in Red Wing, MN. She graduated from Red Wing High School in 1960, earning the honor of female athlete of the year. She attended the University of Minnesota, and graduated with degrees in Dental Hygiene, with honors; and Home Economics Education, with department honors as well as the Phi Lamda Theta award for being the most outstanding woman in the college of education. She worked as a dental hygienist and taught high school in St. Paul, MN prior to starting her family. After moving to Duluth, she worked as a dental hygienist for nearly 40 years. She loved taking photographs, traveling, playing the piano, listening to music, attending performing arts events, quilting, knitting, and watching any sport that happened to be in season. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Lori was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dr. Rodney Sandelin, DDS.
She is survived by her children Caroline (William) Pedersen of Duluth, MN, Susan (Gregory) Fletcher of Seattle, WA, and Peter (Amy) Sandelin of Duluth, MN; her grandchildren Tyler and Benjamin Pedersen, Grace and Clara Fletcher, and Leo Sandelin; and her brother, Dr. Robert (Paulette) Reid of Evansville, IN.
The family would like to thank Dr. Silva-Benedict and the St. Luke’s Oncology Department for their excellent care over the last four years. They would also like to thank her Home Hospice Registered Nurse Holly and the rest of the St. Luke’s Home Hospice Staff; they took such skilled and compassionate care of our mom as well as the rest of the family during this last month.
A private gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials to the St. Luke’s Foundation, 915 E First Street, Duluth, MN 55805 and designated for use by St. Luke’s Hospice would be appreciated.
