Martha B Granholm

She was born in Virginia, MN and moved to Duluth at an early age. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Duluth Brewing and Malting Co. until going to work for Civilian Air Force. She married George H. Granholm in 1945 and then they started their family and raised three sons. Her life revolved around church, schools, her boys and their families.

She was a PTA President at Fairmont School receiving a Life Membership Award and pin. She later worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Irving School. Martha is a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was very active. She taught Sunday School for 25 years and was a member of the church’s Women’s Society and served in all offices of that society. She also served as treasurer of the Norton Park Friendship Club.

Martha had a heart of gold. She was always more concerned about others than herself. She was a very talented baker who found joy sharing her gift with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George (1981); sisters, Delores and Corinne; brother, Harold; son, Donald (2008); grandson, Kim (2002 ).

She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Diana) Granholm of Esko, Mark (Karen) Granholm of Proctor; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Granholm of Cloquet; seven grandchildren, Keith (Lisa) Granholm, Bonnie (Nick) Larsen, Jodie (Mike) Jurek, Amy Granholm, Julie (Tim) Carroll, Jamie (Ray) Ruotsalainen, Jackie (Bill) Onnen; granddaughter-in-law, Aliina Granholm of Esko; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to St. Mary’s Essentia Hospice for the great care and kindness given to Martha.

Visitation will be 11 am until the 12:00 pm Noon Funeral Service on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 6822 Grand Ave. with Rev. Cindy Rasmussen officiating. Burial will take place at Oneota Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Asbury United Methodist Church.
