Roy was born April 6, 1926 in Duluth to John and Ida Anderson. He was a 1944 graduate of Central High School. Immediately after graduation Roy entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. Upon his return, Roy began his studies at UMD, graduating in 1951 with a degree in business and economics. On November 7, 1953, Roy married Audrey Brunberg.
Roy worked for the D.M. & I.R. Railway Company retiring in 1981 after 30 years of service.
Roy was a Mason for over 50 years, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a very active member of First Lutheran Church and served on various church boards and as an usher. Roy served on the Board of Directors at Gramercy Park and his high school reunion committee. He was also a member of the Lake Avenue Loafers.
Roy enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, golf, curling, bowling, cross country skiing, the cabin at Prairie Lake, his duck shack on Third River, but most of all watching and supporting his grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities. He savored the time spent with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Betty Gatlin.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Audrey; daughters, Mary (Henry) Harper of Duluth and Claudia (Jeffery) Engelmeier of Sagniaw, MN.; four grandchildren, Melissa Engelmeier and Matthew Engelmeier, both of Saginaw, Zachary Harper and Jessica Harper, both of Duluth; his brother, John (Lois) of Peoria, AZ.; several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 11:30 until the 12:30 funeral service Saturday, April 16, 2011 at First Lutheran Church, 1100 East Superior Street.
