

Tom was raised in New Orleans and worked there as a butcher. In 1940, he began a 33 year career with the military joining the US Army. Tom married Estelle Powers on November 14, 1942. He served in the Far East as a medic during WWII. After VJ day he served in Japan for a year before transferring back to the states. In 1948, Tom switched to the US Air Force; seeing action in Korea and Vietnam, and peacetime service in Iceland, Turkey, and the US. He retired in 1973, and lost his wife Estelle in spring of 1974. Tom married Arlene Bowen in 1975, and was employed by Jeno’s in Duluth where he again served in a medical capacity until retiring in 1985. Tom and Arlene enjoyed the outdoors during retirement; Arlene gardening and bird watching, and Tom hunting and woodworking. Arlene passed away on July 23, 2005.
Tom is survived by his extended family and friends.
Memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday October 2, 2010 at Bell Brothers Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home, 925 E 4th St., Duluth MN (218) 722-5131.
