Violet Davis passed away on March 5, 2014, in Phoenix, AZ, at the age of 93. She was born on February 14, 1921, to Anna and John Felldeen in Duluth, MN. An active child, Violet enjoyed swimming, hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, and gardening while growing up.
Violet graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1939 and immediately started taking classes at Duluth Business College. Upon completing her course work she started working for the City of Duluth. It was during this time that she would meet Lyle Davis and marry him in 1947. They lived in the Kenwood area of Duluth for many years and then in 1958 moved to Little Grand Lake in Saginaw, MN. After moving to the lake, Violet discovered she was pregnant and quit her job with the city to become a full time, stay at home mom. Violet assumed multiple duties while the family lived at Little Grand Lake. Hockey mom, swimming coach, and chauffeur were but a few of the unofficial job titles she had. She was a member of the PTA, helped to organize carnivals at Caribou Lake elementary school, was a part time bookkeeper for Grand Lake Township, and even bred and showed Welsh Terriers. Every year both sides of the extended family would come to their home for Christmas Eve and Violet would pull the dinner off without any problem. Her ability to organize and multi-task was amazing. Family from as far away as Florida, California and New York would enjoy their yearly visits. Her husband, Lyle, always wanted to move back to Tucson, AZ and Violet agreed with two conditions. Number one, they wait until her mother, Anna, passed. And, two, their son, Kirk, finished college. Violet and Lyle moved to Tucson, AZ in September of 1982. Lyle died in 1985 and after his passing, Violet experienced a social renaissance of sorts. She found new friends and made frequent trips with them to Mexico. She also volunteered her time at the VA hospital in Tucson. It was during this time that she met Albert Scott and the two traveled the US and Mexico together. The two widowers became good friends and companions for one another. In May, 2012, after Albert moved to Fargo, Violet moved to Phoenix to be closer to her son, Kirk, where she remained until her death.
Violet was preceded in death by husband, Lyle, mother and father, Anna and John Felldeen, sister, Wallie Strom, cousins, Lois and Lynn Barber, and friend, Albert Scott.
She is survived by son, Kirk Davis of Phoenix, AZ, cousins, Edith Jankowski and Barbara Darland of Duluth, MN, Beverly Zengel of Mesa, AZ, Jon Hicks of Minnetonka, MN, Lara Adair of West Milford, NJ, nephews, Frank Mason of Clearwater, MN, and David Mason of Rockford, IL. An amazing mother, wife, family member, and friend she is already missed.
