Willard Douglas McCrady

September 21, 1940December 13, 2018

Willard (“Bill”) D. McCrady passed away peacefully at his home in Duluth on December 13, 2018. Bill was born September 21, 1940, to Iva (Daigle) and Willard M. McCrady, in Bemidji, MN.

Bill worked at Udac for many years before retiring and made many friends there. Bill found his home with Innovative Living (later DRCC), where he met his housemates with whom he lived for over twenty years.

Bill loved talking to people and getting to know them. He enjoyed comic books, sports, music, but most of all his “stories”. Bill loved his sister, whom he spoke to and visited with often. Two of Bill’s proudest moments included winning a gold medal in the Special Olympics and attending the Buddy Holly concert in Duluth.

Bill was one of a kind and made a lasting impression on all who knew him. His wonderful spirit and unforgettable laugh will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sister Mary Jo (John) Yachwak of Hibbing, his niece Ann Yachwak (Peter Beatrice) of Chicago, and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery in Hermantown in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Udac ( or DRCC (, both of Duluth, for which the family is deeply grateful for the years of outstanding services and loving care provided to Bill.

I had the privilege of working with Bill at Udac for several years. He was one of those people that you truly enjoyed having a conversation with. His smile and laughter will surely be missed! One day while Bill was having a very talkative day, I referred to him as “Wild Bill McCrady” and it stuck!! He was never simply Bill again!! Rest In Peace dear man!!

Oh, I have plenty of favorite Bill memories! Not sure if I have enough room here so I will leave a couple. THAT VOICE! That booming voice! Especially when he would, he could rhyme just about anything and make a song out of it! Bill and I would make our daily bets while working at udac. Of course, he always picked the winners and he would "take me to the cleaners" every........single........time. Another thing he was always right about.....those Minnesota teams CAN'T play ball! Whenever Bill wasn't in much of a mood to talk or work, I would always cheer him up a bit when we talked about music. ESPECIALLY Buddy Holly! He loved to remind me that he saw Buddy in concert and he would always bust out in the song "Oh, Boy". That always brought his smile back and lead on to more music talk and more sports bets. I'll never forget the ONE time I asked Bill who was going to win the Kentucky Derby. He asked me what the horses names were and I named all 20. I'll be darned if he didn't pick the winner....and it was a decent longshot! THANKS, BILL!! R.I.P. were one of a DEE dee....
