Born in Flin Flon, MB on September 11, 1950 into a military family, Al's youth was spent in various locals as the family postings dictated: Germany, Chilliwack BC and finally settling in Petawawa ON.
Survived by his two sons Daniel and Dustin; his mother Dorothy Thompson who has always remained a rock in his life; sisters Joyce, Wendy and Barbara, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Kenneth Thompson in 1983.
Al's passions in life were his sons, aviation, wood working, car mechanics and cooking good food. Before becoming disabled he enjoyed many happy outings with his sons in the back country around Lake Cowichan. He was a sheet metal mechanic and worked on the F18 jets in Cold Lake, AB during the '80's. He also studied fine furniture construction and enjoyed creating his wood turnings and carvings in his shop in Youbou.
Al was always a free spirit who chose to live life his way!
A service will be announced in the Spring for a memorial gathering in Petawawa ON where he spent the majority of his youth and held many good memories for him.
Many thanks to Dr. Kerswell for his excellent support and care over many years and the First Memorial Funeral Homes in Duncan and Victoria for their kind direction.
