Dallas Quentin Giebelhaus was born in Lloydminster Saskatchewan September 27, 1964. Brother Darrin William predeceased in 1961. Dallas was the fifth son born to Hilda and Rodney, brother to Dale, Dean, Darryl and Destiny. The family was living in Lloydminster Alberta, but the hospital being in the Saskatchewan side of the town. In 1966 the family moved to Kamloops BC. While in Kamloops, Dallas grew up following his older brothers around and playing sports. He was not too happy when his little sister Destiny, almost 8 years younger, was born in 1972. Dallas asked the neighbors if his mom had a baby girl, could he trade the baby girl for their two dogs. Of course when Destiny was born, he knew that his mom would not give her up for the dogs!
In the Summer of 1972 the family moved to Victoria where Dallas continued playing sports and excelled in playing baseball. At one point, pitching a perfect game which was aired on the local T.V. station. Dallas had a talent of excelling at sports and everything he put his hands to. Put a pool cue in his hands and he could clear a pool table without his opponent able to get a chance. He could do back flips, the Russian Squat Dance with ease, he could use the Nunchaku (nunchucks) with ease and perfection. Dallas loved to tinker with everything, his motorbikes, cars, electronics, anything and everything that offered a challenge, Dallas would do it and with little effort. Dallas began carpet laying with his older brother Dean in the mid 1980’s and was so good that he was in demand for his perfection. June of 1990 Dallas married his long-time girlfriend, and even though the marriage did not last, his move to the mainland and working relationship with his good friend Don (Bev), which enabled him to pursue another learning ability. The ability to install elevators. He lived on the mainland for several years working and continuing to play baseball in an adult league and meeting new friends. Around 2006 Dallas moved back to the Island, where life started to change for him and take him on a different path. He always maintained his love for family and with the help of his brothers and family he went to Saskatchewan in June of 2021 with Darryl where he was able to get the long awaited help he needed and started to become the Dallas we all remembered and loved. After a few months with Darryl, Dallas wanted to come back to the Island, to the home he loved and lived. He moved onto his very close, long-time friend Pat & Kim Arnold’s property where he spent his last year. Dallas recently began working again carpet laying and working long hard days. Something he was able to do at one time for so many years.
On Thursday September 1, 2022, Dallas came home from one of those long days, went into his trailer and passed away. He will be greatly missed by all those that loved him, and knew him. His Mom, Dad, Dale, Dean, Darryl, Destiny, Val, Moe, Connie, Graham, the many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and friends. Predeceased by his step-dad Bob (2004) who loved him very much.
