Daniel Alexander McKinnon passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Duncan on Easter Monday, April 1, 2024 at the age of 73. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Jessica (Joshua) & granddaughter Aurélie, son D'Arcy, sisters Bonnie, Delphine, & Marian, and many cousins and nieces and nephews, and granddog Velvet. Daniel was predeceased by brother Malcolm.
Dan was born in Sudbury to Daniel & Helen (née Mulligan) McKinnon on Sept 9, 1950. He lived in Toronto, Sudbury, Regina, Toronto again, Winnipeg, and finally Vancouver Island, first in Victoria, and later in Duncan. While married, and living in Regina, Dan's son and daughter were born. Dan was an avid hockey fan, and while growing up in Toronto, played hockey throughout his teenage years. Dan graduated with a BA in history and English from Laurentian University (Sudbury ON), where he took a turn as editor of the student newspaper. He also belonged to the drama club at Laurentian and performed in student productions. Dan held various jobs throughout his life including carpentry, sales, and in later years driving a bus in Pennsylvania.
Dan loved the outdoors and he appreciated the fine arts. He enjoyed writing and wrote several books. While living in Regina, he belonged to the Regina Little Theatre group. In his later years, Dan also developed an interest in playing music on the flute, bass guitar and violin. Dan had a deep faith and was an enthusiastic member of St. Benedict's church choir in Rexdale, Toronto. In Duncan, Dan attended St. Anne's Catholic Church regularly. There was a funeral mass service where he was buried, at St Francis Xavier in Mill Bay on April 4.
