David Metro Skrypnyk, 75, died at the Cowichan District Hospital on May 21, 2022, after suffering for years from heart issues. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 20 years, Anne, and has no children or siblings; however he had 33 first cousins throughout Canada, from 10 aunts and uncles of the Bellavance family, originally from Saskatchewan.
David was multi-talented and held two doctorates in Fine Arts and Arts Education from Ashwood University. He enjoyed painting, photography and digital design, sold through his company, Archipelago Art Gallery, Victoria. His landscape paintings had a Vancouver Island flair, reflecting his love of the area, in bold colors. Other career paths included designing, fabricating and erecting structural steel, where his unique talents were respected.
David had an incredibly kind heart for animals, and fed 15-20 feral cats two meals a day for many years, in Cowichan Valley. His Labradoodle, Kyle, 12.5 years old, was his constant companion and exercise source—he took Kyle on 1.5 mile walks twice a day, rain, sleet or hail. The family has been assured Kyle will be placed in a good home as he is well mannered and sweet.
