Lionel Laviolette passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, after a long illness. He will be deeply missed by his children, Clayton, Darcy, and Toby (Connie); his grandchildren, Michelle (Chris), Caitlyn, Julia and Olivia; and his great-grandchildren, Gavin and Norah. Lionel will also be fondly remembered by his siblings, Claudette Howlett, Gilbert, and Lennis (Dianne). He was predeceased by his brother Ron and his parents, Phillip and Agnes.
Lionel embraced life fully. He was happiest sailing on his 32-foot cruiser, Te Tiaroa, and in winter, he loved hitting the slopes, proudly holding an International Ski Instructor’s license. A gifted musician, Lionel played guitar and banjo and delighted in singing—whether solo, with friends, or as part of a choir. He also enjoyed performing in amateur theatre productions. Later in life, he discovered a passion for watercolour painting and took great joy in watching his skills grow.
Lionel lived a happy, sober life and will be remembered by his many friends in the fellowship and through the countless activities that brought him joy.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 23, 2026, at St Edward’s the Confessor Catholic Church, 2085 Maple Bay Road, North Cowichan, BC V9L 5L9.
