

Nowicki, Alice Marie Alice was one of nine children born to a French Canadian family in Warren, Ontario on September 30, 1921. She peacefully passed away in Duncan on August 17, 2011 at almost 90 years of age. Alice was predeceased by her husband Hank Nowicki in 2000. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her sons Calvin (Deirdre) and Ted(Myrl), grandchildren Melissa, Steven, Travis and Sarah nephew Mike(Roma)Nowicki of Duncan and many other nieces and nephews. Alice grew up in the Great Depression. Through those years she learned to work hard while developing a zest for fun with family and friends. She loved to tend to her garden, can her vegetables and bake wonderful foods for her family. Alice worked for a time at the Cowichan Pictorial. She and Hank enjoyed socializing with many friends, gathered over their years living in the Cowichan Valley. Hank and Alice were long time members of St Edwards Catholic Church. They also belonged to the Legion, the Eagles and the OAP where they enjoyed dancing and visiting friends. They started their live together living at Caycuse Camp. Later they moved to Duncan where Alice ran the General Store on Norcross Road. In 1968, they built their family home on Menzies Road. After retirement, they moved to Maple Bay Road. Alice lived her later years at both Cowichan Lodge and Sunridge Place. Her family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Cowichan Lodge and Sunridge Place for their care and compassion for Mom. We would also like to thank Dr. Swan and Malherbe for their attention to our Mom. In Lieu of flowers a donation can be made to a charity of your choice in Alice’s name. A funeral Mass in Alice’s memory will be held at 1:00 on Saturday August 27th at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Duncan.
