

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad. Born in Salmon Arm, BC, on April 18, 1924 and passed away at the Cowichan District Hospital on August 12, 2011. Predeceased by his wife Winnifred in July 2003. Survived by his children: Lynne (Dean) Malner and Eric (Debbie) Fawcus; Grandchildren: Richard Fawcus, Erin (Robert) Horne, Karleigh Malner and Jonathan Malner and a beautiful great granddaughter Kaelen Horne. He will be missed by his sister in law Amy Neen, a niece and several nephews and good friends Ruth and Ralph Morton and Pat King. Gordon, as he was fondly known, joined the Air Force in
July 1943. He went to Toronto for basic training, then to St. Thomas for specialized electrical training. In 1944 Dad went to serve in England where he stayed until returning home in 1946. In the summer of 1946 Dad worked for the Summerland Research Station. Dad attended UBC from then until graduation in 1949 earning a BSA. In 1949 Dad began working for Veterans Land Act where he remained until his retirement in December 1981. Dad met Mom in 1952. Together they started to build their house on Caen Road in 1953. They were married in 1955 in Vancouver and then moved into their home. Dad remained in the family home until June 2006. Dad enjoyed spending his time outdoors and in his garden. Dad was a member of the Legion for 60 years and an active member of the M.S. Society for many years as well.
There will be a memorial service held in honour of Gordon on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of First Memorial Funeral Service.
