Pat passed away peacefully in her home on October 26th, 2023 at the age of 91, surrounded by the love of her family. Pat was born in Rossland, BC to Arthur and Minnie Turner. She had an active childhood, skiing, skating and swimming with brothers Colin, Brian and David. She also sang in choirs and played violin in the orchestra. She attended Normal School in Victoria to become a teacher, teaching in various communities over 10 years.
Pat married Alan Gibson of Duncan in 1954, and before long they welcomed five children. She moved to North Vancouver with second husband Eric Guest in 1970, adding his four children to the mix. They moved on to Mackenzie and then Coquitlam where she attended SFU and completed her BGS. They returned to the island and settled in Maple Bay in 1981.
During those years, with the help of their many children Pat and Eric built their beloved summer cabin on DeCourcy Island. She was involved in politics, did countless years of volunteer work and with Eric began travelling the world. Seeking more freedom, they moved to Arbutus Ridge in 1994, continuing to travel well into their golden years.
Throughout her life, Pat was in her element hosting gatherings at her dining room table, feeding a large crowd with ease. Many are grateful for those happy times. Never idle, she knit countless beautiful sweaters for family and continued to sing in choirs and play the piano.
Health concerns brought her to Wedgewood Place in 2015, where she was able to maintain some independence, creating ever new friendships. In 2018, she moved to Deertrail Cottage, her final home.
Predeceased by her husband Eric, and brothers Colin and Brian, she will be missed by; Brian’s wife Ruth, brother David (Wendy), children, Bev (Dave), Roger (Donna), Christine, John, David, Janet (Marc), Grant, Craig (Marjorie) and Heidi (Yves). Affectionately known as “Gram”, she will be fondly remembered by her 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Deertrail Cottage for their loving care of Pat over the years.
