

Ruby was born in Belleville, Ontario, the youngest of four girls, to May Brown Terwilligar and Hector Jabez Bennett-Poste. With her military husband, she moved to New Brunswick, Ohio, Calgary, Germany, and Courtenay before retiring to Victoria, BC. She was a lifetime member of the Victoria Choral Society, a forty year member of the 1st Metropolitan United Church choir, an accomplished seamstress, and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Ruby was also a member of two handbell groups, Pringle Bells and New Horizons Handbells.
Ruby was pre-deceased by her three sisters, Jeanne Keane, (Ottawa), Dorothy King, (Whitby), Trudie Jordan, (Ajax), and by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth Lightbody, (Victoria).
Ruby is survived by her three daughters: Linda Keating, (Vancouver), Louise Petersen, (Utah), and Laura Kean, (Duncan), 7 grandchildren: Shane, Gregory, Jennifer, Christopher, Molly, Tammy, and Ryan as well as 10 great-grandchildren: Baylee, Anastasia, Jocelyn, Owen, Quentin, Aria, Ella, Luca, Henry, and Vera. She died with her three daughters by her side, in Duncan, BC.
A celebration of Ruby’s life will be held on May 12th at 10:30 AM in the chapel of the 1st Metropolitan United Church, 932 Balmoral St., Victoria.
