With sorrow in our hearts, we announce the October 5th sudden death of a loving wife, kind and devoted mother of 4 children, a thoughtful and caring only daughter, a special sister to 3 brothers, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law and a loyal and trusted friend to many.
Sheila was born in Saskatoon on May 17, 1959. She passed away quietly and peacefully in her sleep without warning. For 25 years, she gave faithful and compassionate care as a Registered Nurse to the residents at Acacia Ty Mawr Nursing Home at Shawnigan Lake. She was the linchpin of our family around whom all joys revolved. As the focus of our family's life, she organized many happy times at the cottage at Shawnigan Lake, the most recent being a reunion this past August.
Sheila is survived by her husband Barry of Duncan, her children Kristofer Mickelson (special friend Candice Johnson of Ponoka, AB), Kimberly Mickelson (fiance Michael Schedel of Shawnigan Lake), Alicia Mickelson (special friend Tyler Hoogerdyk of Victoria), and Ryan Hetschko, a grade 10 student at Brentwood College, her Mom and Dad, Helen & Ted Hughes of Victoria, her brother David residing in Laos, brother Keith (Lori with Jayleen and Tanner) of Spruce Grove, AB, and brother Brian (Liz with Jake and Eva) of San Diego, CA; her faithful sister-in-law Kathy Robinson of Caledon, ON, her mother and father-in-law Mona & Bruno Hetschko and sister-in-law Lynn Jackson, all of Richmond, BC. Finally, Sheila's two dogs Marky and Cooper have also lost a loyal companion.
A family memorial service was held at the First Memorial Funeral Chapel in Duncan on Saturday, October 9th. The family would like to thank friends, neighbors and others for their many kindnesses since Sheila's passing; In particular neighbors Holly (Sheila's daily walking partner and great friend), Pat, Sydney and Mateo Biello whose constant presence has been of great assistance and relief.
No flowers by request but those wishing to make a donation in memory of Sheila, may do so to either the Youth Empowerment Society (533 Yates St., Victoria, BC V8W 1K7) or the United Way of Duncan or Victoria.
