It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Pre-deceased by his wife Velma in 2024, and survived by his children Terry, Sandra, Donna (Bob) and Dave (Barb). Grandchildren James, Lisa, and Camden (Alisha) and great grandchildren Brodi, Kaiden, Emma, Haddon and Eve.
Walt was born in Springside Saskatchewan. At around the age of 14 he left the farm to find work in various locations across the country. In 1951 Walt travelled to BC, and shortly thereafter he met Velma. They married in October of 1952. Dad drove many miles delivering milk for Dairyland before being hired at Bamberton Cement in 1964, driving truck and operating a large front end loader until the plant closed in 1980. He then worked as a Custodian for the Cowichan School District until retirement. Dad loved playing cards, winning the Island Cribbage Championship in 1964. He had an ability to make everyone feel comfortable and always had a joke ready. His sense of humour, laugh and smile were contagious. Dad enjoyed his retirement with mom, travelling by bus to the casinos and tending to his tomatoes and garden. He loved family events, and was always taking 2 bits (or more) from us playing cards. Dad was our calm port when there was a storm. His never-ending support, and quiet respected advice will be missed immensely.
We love you Dad. Say hi to Mom. Dai Bozhe!
Celebration of Life service to be held Sat. Feb.7, 2026, 1-3pm, First Memorial Hall, 375 Brae Road, Duncan.
